INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
Authorship
- The first author must be an accredited member of the Japanese Society of Medical Imaging (JSMI).
- Each non-member coauthor must pay an amount equivalent to the annual membership fee.
- The total number of authors must not exceed twelve.
Scope
Manuscripts should address topics in diagnostic imaging and related sciences, and must fall into one of the following categories:
- Original Research: Reports with a clear aim and conclusive results that advance medical imaging science.
- Work-in-Progress: Reports on ongoing original research. Authors must provide written justification for urgent publication; the final decision rests with the Editorial Board.
- Case Reports: Descriptions of single or small numbers of cases with unique features relevant to imaging science.
- Technical Reports: Reports on techniques and equipment related to medical imaging.
- Reviews: Summaries of recent articles or books on diagnostic imaging, usually requested by the Editorial Board.
- Correspondence: Comments on previously published articles.
Editorial Limitations
Original research, work-in-progress, case reports, and technical reports must not have been previously published and must not be under consideration elsewhere.
Ethical Considerations
- Manuscripts involving human subjects must include a statement in the Methods section confirming that:
- Informed consent was obtained from each patient.
- The study protocol conforms to the ethical guidelines of the 1975 Declaration of Helsinki, as reflected in the regulations of the institution where the research was conducted.
- Manuscripts involving animal experiments must include a statement confirming that their use was properly controlled under institutional guidelines.
Copyright
Published papers become the permanent property of the Japanese Journal of Diagnostic Imaging and may not be reproduced in whole or in part without written permission from both the author and the publisher.
Manuscript Preparation
- All contributions must be written in English.
- Digital files, including figures and tables, should be submitted by email.
- Manuscripts must be prepared using a word processor and include the title, authors’ names, and affiliations.
- Figures and tables should be submitted separately from the text, with clear indications in the manuscript of where they should be inserted.
- Photographs must be sharp, glossy black-and-white prints, no larger than 13 × 18 cm (5 1/8 × 7 1/8 inches).
- The full cost of reproducing color photographs will be charged to the authors.
- Each figure must be clearly labeled on the back with its number and an arrow indicating orientation.
- Each table must be clearly labeled with its number.
- Figure legends must be typed on a separate sheet.
- The use of SI units is encouraged. However, when describing laws concerning prevention of physical damage, units specified by the law may be used.
Manuscript Format
- Cover Page: Title, type of article, authors’ names (with qualifications, e.g., MD, PhD), affiliations (department, institution, address, telephone, fax, and email), keywords, and address for reprints.
- Abstract: Structured abstract including objective, materials and methods, results, and conclusion.
- Main Text
- References (in order of citation in the text)
- Figures and Legends
References
- References must be numbered in the order cited in the text.
- For more than seven authors, list only the first three followed by et al.
- Journal references must include: authors’ names, article title, journal name (abbreviated according to Index Medicus), year, volume, and page numbers.
- Book references must include: authors’ names, title, editors’ names (if applicable), publisher, city, and year.
